About Leslie Jennings
To say that I have taken a round about way to releasing my inner artist would be an understatement. As a child I always had a very vivid imagination, but as I progressed in school I learned I had an aptitude for math and science. After studying Engineering Physics in University I spent 15 years working in the field of Aerospace Engineering in Ontario, Canada before moving on to work as a consultant to Canadian companies striving for innovation through the SR&ED (Scientific Research & Experimental Development) program.
For almost as long as I have been working in Engineering with my left brain I have been striving to find ways to let my right brain express my imagination and passion for creativity by exploring the worlds of ecstatic dance, mixed media collage, creative writing, music and poetry. It was my love of words and music that were easiest to explore and share early on in my journey, but as I wrote more poetry and song lyrics I found that I wanted a visual outlet for expressing my thoughts, ideas and feelings in images as well as words. Especially in those times when words were insufficient. It was only after I took an eight week Mixed Media Collage summer course at Visual Arts Mississauga with Timothy Daniels that I found the visual art medium that offered me the outlet I was seeking.
I love the process of creating a collage, not knowing what media will be combined on the canvas to create the final image that unfolds almost on its own through inspiration and exploration.
